선과 여백으로 풀어낸 동양적 공간의 언어

한국적인 공간을 직접적으로 드러내기보다는 동양에서 이어져 내려온 ‘선(線)’과 ‘여백(餘白)’을 중심으로 공간을 기획했습니다. 수평과 수직의 구조는 장식이 아닌 공간을 통일감 있고 질서 있는 형태로 정리하여 절제된 형태 안에서 오히려 상상력의 폭을 넓히는 방식으로 활용했습니다.

한국 문화에서 '선'은 자연과의 조화, 절제, 겸손을 상징하는 중요한 요소입니다. 모시, 한지, 포천석 등 전통적인 소재들을 다양한 스케일로 활용하여 공간 전반에 균형감을 부여하고 긴장과 안정이 공존하는 분위기를 조성하였습니다. 침실의 벽면은 수묵화의 농담과 선의 구조적디자인으로 구성하여 공간 안에 시선이 머물 수 있는 여백을 형성합니다. 정갈한 분위기가 중심을 이루지만 단순함 속 은은한 깊이를 느낄 수 있도록 장식적 요소는 최소화하고 공간은 간결하게 정리하였습니다.

공간 곳곳의 천장과 벽면에는 '경'을 활용한 반사 구조를 적용하여 시각적인 확장을 유도하여 공간에 깊이를 더해주었습니다. 머무는 행위 자체가 온전한 쉼으로 연결되도록 설계하고 동양적 감성과 현대적 해석이 조화롭게 공존하는 공간으로 구성하였습니다.

An Eastern Spatial Language Expressed Through Line and Void

Rather than directly representing a Korean aesthetic, the space was conceived around the Eastern principles of line and void, ideas that have been passed down through generations. Horizontal and vertical structures are employed not as decoration, but as organizing elements—bringing unity and order to the space. Within this restrained framework, imagination is given room to expand.

In Korean culture, the line is a significant symbol of harmony with nature, restraint, and humility. Traditional materials such as ramie, hanji, and Pocheon stone are applied across varying scales, creating a balanced composition where tension and calm coexist. The bedroom walls are composed through the tonal gradations of ink wash painting and structural linear design, forming intentional voids—spaces where the gaze can pause and linger.

While a sense of clarity and composure defines the overall atmosphere, decorative elements are deliberately minimized. Through this simplicity, a quiet depth emerges, allowing the space to feel restrained yet subtly expressive.

Reflective structures inspired by the concept of gyeong are applied to ceilings and walls throughout the space, encouraging visual expansion and adding layers of spatial depth. Designed so that the act of staying itself becomes a complete form of rest, the space allows Eastern sensibilities and contemporary interpretation to coexist in calm harmony.
