보이지 않는 깊이를 담은 공간

바다 아래 깊은 곳에서 길게 이어지는 산맥을 뜻하는 말인 '카이레이(Kairei)'는 수면 위에서는 드러나지 않지만 그 아래에는 조용하고 단단한 층위가 존재한다는 개념이 이번 공간을 풀어내는데 중요한 출발점이 되었습니다. 우리는 이 보이지 않는 깊이를 형태가 아닌 감각적으로 느껴질 수 있게 전달하는 방식에 대해 고민했습니다.

공간은 밀도 있게 구성된 동선과 시선의 흐름을 중심으로 계획되었습니다. 밝은 우드와 아이보리 톤 기반으로 차분한 분위기를 유지하며 다찌 공간의 히노키가 지닌 따뜻한 질감이 자연스럽게 드러날 수 있도록 전반적인 톤을 밝지만 가볍지 않고 정갈하지만 긴장감이 느껴지는 균형을 통해 공간의 집중도를 높이고자 했습니다.

공간의 핵심적인 디자인 언어는 소재에서 출발합니다. 줄무늬 질감이 살아 있는 '낙수지' 한지를 포인트 요소로 사용하고 그 뒤에 살대와 조명을 더해 빛이 겹겹이 스며드는 구조를 만들었습니다. 이는 일본 젠 스타일의 선적 미학을 직접적으로 드러내기보다 재료의 결과 빛의 중첩을 통해 은은하게 체감되도록 한 해석입니다. 절제된 재료와 빛의 밀도 속에서 시선을 자연스럽게 정리되고 공간은 음식과 그 순간에 온전히 집중할 수 있는 환경으로 제공합니다.

A Space Shaped by Invisible Depth

The name “Kairei” refers to mountain ranges that stretch deep beneath the ocean’s surface—unseen above the water, yet defined by quiet and solid layers below. This concept became a key starting point in shaping the space. We explored ways to translate this invisible depth not through form, but through sensory experience.

The space is organized around a carefully composed flow of movement and sightlines. A palette of bright wood and ivory tones establishes a calm atmosphere, while allowing the natural warmth of the hinoki at the counter to emerge organically. The overall tone was finely adjusted to feel bright yet grounded, refined yet subtly tense—enhancing focus and spatial concentration.

The core design language originates from materiality. Naksuji hanji, with its distinctive striped texture, is used as a focal element, layered with wooden slats and lighting behind it to create softly permeating layers of light. Rather than directly expressing Japanese Zen aesthetics, this approach interprets them through the overlapping effects of material texture and light. Within this restrained composition, the gaze is naturally composed, and the space becomes an environment where full attention can be given to the moment and the experience it holds.
