닫힌 문 너머, 여럿이 머무는 따뜻한 공간

서울 종로 체부동, 한적한 동네 끝자락에 위치한 한옥 스테이 도현당은 바쁜 일상에서 한 걸음 물러나 작은 쉼과 여유를 나누기 위한 공간으로 시작된 프로젝트입니다. 닫힌 대문을 지나 들어서면 도시의 속도와는 다른 시간의 공간이 펼쳐지며 머무는 이들을 조용히 맞이합니다. 기존 한옥의 구조를 유지하며 전통적인 분위기와 넓은 마당이 주는 개방감 그리고 현대적인 소재와 편리함을 조화롭게 결합해 새로운 모습으로 재탄생했습니다. 한지 조명과 도자기, 나무 장식 등 전통적인 요소들은 공간 곳곳에 배치되어 옛것의 정취를 자연스럽게 이어갑니다.

대문을 열고 들어서면 정갈하게 놓인 디딤석과 서까래, 흰색으로 도장된 천장이 한눈에 들어오며 공간의 첫 인상을 만들어냅니다. 마당을 향해 열린 커다란 창호는 실내와 외부를 부드럽게 연결하여 계절의 변화와 하루의 빛을 고스란히 실내로 끌어들입니다. 주방에는 한옥의 나무 바닥과 벽지를 사용해 따뜻한 분위기를 유지하고 스파 공간에는 그레이 톤의 타일을 적용해 차분한 현대적인 분위기를 더했습니다.

도현당의 특징은 내부에서 스파와 다도를 함께 즐길 수 있도록 구성된 구조에 있습니다. 각자의 속도로 머물면서도 하나의 공간 안에서 자연스럽게 시간을 공유할 수 있도록 설계되었습니다. 침실은 사용자의 시선을 고려해 배치되어 넓은 창호 너머로 이른 아침의 맑은 하늘과 햇살, 마당의 계절 풍경을 바라보며 여유로운 시간을 보낼 수 있습니다. 각 침실에는 개별 파우더룸과 화장실을 마련하여 함께 머무는 공간 속에서도 편안함과 프라이버시를 동시에 제공합니다.

Beyond the Closed Gate, a Warm Space Shared Together

Located at the quiet edge of Chebu-dong in Jongno, Seoul, Dohyeondang is a hanok stay project that began with the intention of offering a step back from everyday life—a place to share moments of rest and ease. Passing through the closed gate, visitors are gently welcomed into a different rhythm of time, one that unfolds quietly and slowly. Preserving the original structure of the hanok, the space has been reborn through a careful balance of traditional atmosphere, the openness of a generous courtyard, and the comfort of contemporary materials and conveniences. Traditional elements such as hanji lighting, ceramic objects, and wooden details are thoughtfully placed throughout, allowing the spirit of the past to continue naturally within the space.

Upon entering, neatly arranged stepping stones, exposed wooden rafters, and a white-painted ceiling come into view, forming the space’s first impression. Large windows opening toward the courtyard softly connect the interior with the outdoors, drawing seasonal changes and the shifting light of the day deep into the space. In the kitchen, traditional wooden flooring and wallpaper maintain a sense of warmth, while the spa area introduces gray-toned tiles to add a calm, modern contrast.

One of Dohyeondang’s defining qualities lies in its layout, which allows guests to enjoy both spa and tea rituals within the interior. Designed to accommodate different rhythms of stay, the space enables individuals to move at their own pace while naturally sharing time together. The bedrooms are arranged with careful attention to sightlines, offering views through wide windows of the clear morning sky, soft sunlight, and the seasonal scenery of the courtyard. Each bedroom is equipped with a private powder room and bathroom, ensuring comfort and privacy even within a shared living environment.
